2U rack server for dense storage workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits in a standard 2U rack space and holds up to 12 hot-plug 3.5-inch drives. Dual Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors deliver 20 physical cores at 2.3 GHz with 40 threads. 64 GB of DDR4 memory is installed across 24 DIMM slots, reaching the processor-limited maximum of 64 GB. The integrated H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for local arrays up to 52 TB.

Dual redundant power and PCIe 3.0 expansion

Two 750 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy without extra cabling. The chassis includes up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated slot for the RAID card, leaving room for additional network or storage adapters. A daughter card supplies four 1 GbE ports, with optional 10 GbE NDC upgrades available. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller handles remote management out of the box.

Rails, bezel and DVD drive included

The package ships with a rail kit and front bezel for immediate rack mounting. A DVD-ROM drive occupies the slim optical bay. No operating system or drive trays are supplied, so storage media and hypervisor licences must be sourced separately. Matrox G200 graphics provide basic console output for installation and troubleshooting.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum RAM capacity this R730XD can reach with its 24 DIMM slots?

The system supports up to 1536GB total memory across 24 DDR4 slots, 12 per processor, using 4GB to 128GB modules up to 2400MT/s.

How much heat and noise should I expect from the dual 750W redundant power supplies under continuous load?

Two hot-swap 750W redundant supplies share the load, reducing per-unit strain and fan speed compared with a single supply running at high utilisation.

Which drive trays and cabling do I need to populate the 12 x 3.5" hot-plug bays?

The chassis accepts 12 x 3.5" hot-plug SAS or SATA drives; trays and cables are not included and must be sourced separately.
