2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2609v3 CPUs, 16GB DDR4, three 900GB SAS drives and H330 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 16GB
HDD 3 x 900GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays in a two-unit rack chassis. Dual six-core Xeon processors at 1.9 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 give a baseline for virtualisation hosts or storage-heavy workloads. Three 900 GB 10K SAS drives and an H330 RAID controller ship installed. The platform targets buyers who need high drive count in a short rack footprint.
Drives connect at 6 Gbps while the H330 controller supports 12 Gbps SAS lanes, so the backplane speed caps sustained throughput. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 are available, but the controller lacks cache protection without an optional battery. Maximum raw capacity reaches 52 TB when all bays are populated with large SAS or SATA disks. PCIe 3.0 slots provide expansion for faster controllers or networking cards.
The 2U chassis mounts on standard square-hole rails, yet cable routing for twenty-four front drives demands careful planning to avoid airflow blockage. Redundant 750 W supplies hot-swap from the rear, but both must be seated for full redundancy. iDRAC8 Express ships enabled for remote power and console access; Enterprise features require a licence upgrade. Memory installs in twelve-slot banks per processor, so population order matters for maximum bandwidth.

Other versions of this model
The server has 24 DIMM slots and currently uses 16GB. You can populate the remaining slots with 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB DDR4 modules up to 2400MT/s, limited by the E5-2609v3 processor capability.
Each E5-2609v3 provides six cores at 1.9GHz, giving 12 threads total. Base frequency is fixed — no turbo — so sustained multi-threaded throughput scales linearly with core count rather than burst speed.
The H330 supports 12Gbps SAS signalling, but the installed 900GB drives are 6Gbps SAS. Real-world throughput will be limited to the 6Gbps drive link and the PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface.
