The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server populated with two 14-core Xeon processors running at 2.4GHz and 768GB of DDR4 memory. Twenty-four 600GB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730 controller with 1GB cache. Dual 750W platinum power supplies, quad-port 1GbE and 10Gb SFP+ networking and iDRAC8 Enterprise complete the platform.

This configuration targets workloads that benefit from high drive counts and large memory capacity such as databases, virtual desktop infrastructure and data-warehouse nodes. The SAS drives and RAID controller favour capacity and redundancy over raw flash latency. The chassis provides twenty-four hot-swap 2.5-inch bays wired to the H730 controller, defining the maximum number of spindles available without expansion shelves. If the deployment needs more than twenty-four drives or a different drive form factor, this server cannot accommodate it.
