Dual 14-core Xeon processors, 64GB DDR4 memory and 24 hot-swap 800GB SATA SSDs in a 2U rack chassis with redundant power
The PowerEdge R730xd delivers 28 cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo, 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and 24 bays of 800 GB SATA SSDs. It targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, VDI, databases or HPC data nodes that need dense local storage and dual-socket compute in a 2U rack form factor.
The included ready rails mount without tools in standard four-post racks and all 24 2.5-inch drive bays are hot-swappable. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and the PERC H730 controller with battery-backed cache are also hot-swappable. Common issues arise when the controller firmware is outdated or when SAS cables are not fully seated during initial drive population.
Confirm the cabinet accommodates the full chassis depth and that SFP+ transceivers or copper modules match the X520/I350 quad-port daughter card. The system has 24 DDR4 slots with 1.5 TB maximum capacity, so plan future memory upgrades around registered ECC modules. Ensure the operating environment supports redundant power connections.

Open the PERC H730 controller BIOS or iDRAC 8 Enterprise interface; both will show every 800 GB SATA SSD as online with no predicted failure.
The unit includes 2x Xeon E5-2680 v4 CPUs, 64 GB DDR4 (4x 16 GB), H730 1 GB controller, 24x 800 GB SATA SSDs, X520/I350 quad-port card, iDRAC 8 Enterprise, 2x 750 W PSUs, bezel and rails; add only OS licences and SFP+ transceivers for the 10 Gb ports.
Start with the installed 64 GB (4x 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz Registered ECC); the 24 DIMM slots support up to 1.5 TB, so you can add matched modules later if workloads grow.
