2U Server for Dense Storage & Compute

The PowerEdge R730xd fits 24 small-form-factor bays into a 2U rack chassis, driven by two 14-core Xeon processors at 2.0 GHz with 3.0 GHz turbo. 128 GB of DDR4 ECC memory and a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache handle database, virtualisation and HPC node workloads. Dual 750 W platinum supplies and iDRAC8 Enterprise complete the platform.

Suits High-Density Workloads; Not for Minimal Needs

Organisations running virtual desktop infrastructure, data warehouses or e-commerce databases benefit from the bay count and dual 10 GbE SFP+ ports. Buyers needing only a few drives or a single processor should consider smaller configurations. The fixed 24-bay backplane and dual-CPU design add cost and power draw that lighter tasks do not justify.

24-Bay 2.5" Chassis Decides Fit

The defining specification is the 24-bay 2.5-inch front backplane paired with the PERC H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This density determines whether the server matches your storage-node or hyper-converged design. Confirm rack depth, rail clearance and network cabling for the quad-port daughter card before ordering.

Questions about this item

Will my existing LGA 2011-3 coolers fit the dual Xeon E5-2683 v3 sockets on this 2U server?

The system ships with two processors already installed in the two LGA 2011-3 sockets, so no additional CPU coolers are required unless you plan to replace the factory units.

How can I verify the PERC H730 controller and both 800GB SSDs are healthy after first boot?

Open the iDRAC8 Enterprise interface or the PERC H730 BIOS utility during POST to confirm the controller firmware, battery status and that both SSDs appear in a healthy RAID volume.

Which items are included in the box and which must be sourced separately for the 24-bay chassis?

The package includes the 2U server with bezel, ready rails, two 750 W power supplies, the X520/I350 quad-port network card and the two installed 800GB SSDs; drive caddies for empty bays and SFP+ transceivers are not included.
