2U rack server with single Xeon E5-2630 v3 at 2.4 GHz, 48 GB DDR4, three 900 GB 10K SAS drives, H730 RAID controller and dual 750 W redundant power supplies
Installed Memory Size 48GB
HDD 3 x 900GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built for dense storage workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Three 900 GB 10K SAS drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache provide hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management complete the platform.
This configuration suits teams that need up to 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays in a 2U form factor for databases, backup targets or virtualisation storage tiers. The single-socket layout and 48 GB memory ceiling limit heavy multi-threaded compute or large in-memory datasets. Buyers who need dual processors, more than 48 GB of RAM or PCIe 4.0 slot speeds should look at something else.
The defining spec is the 24-bay 2.5-inch hot-plug chassis that supports SAS and SATA drives up to 52 TB raw capacity. If the rack space and workload call for that drive density with hardware RAID, this server matches the requirement; if the project needs fewer bays, larger 3.5-inch drives or a different form factor, this chassis is the wrong choice.

Other versions of this model
The server supports up to two processors. A second E5-2630 v3 doubles cores to 16 physical and 32 virtual, and unlocks the remaining 12 DIMM slots for memory expansion beyond 48GB.
The E5-2630 v3 runs at 2.4 GHz base frequency across eight cores, providing 16 threads with hyper-threading for multi-threaded workloads such as virtualisation and database tasks.
The H730 controller operates at 12 Gbps SAS, while the installed 900 GB drives are 6 Gbps SAS. The controller will run them at their native 6 Gbps speed, capping throughput at the drive interface.
