2U rack server with single Xeon E5-2609 v3, 48GB DDR4, three 900GB SAS drives and H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 48GB
HDD 3 x 900GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built for dense storage workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 48GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. Three 900GB 10K SAS drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1GB cache are included.
Two 750W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy without occupying extra rack height. The chassis supports up to 24 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, freeing internal space for large arrays. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID card slot allow additional networking or accelerator cards. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.
This configuration fits buyers needing high drive-count capacity in a 2U form factor for databases, virtualization hosts or backup targets. The single six-core CPU and lack of GPU-capable slots make it a poor match for compute-intensive rendering, AI training or high-frequency trading workloads. Organizations requiring dual processors or larger memory footprints from day one should consider a different starting point.

Other versions of this model
The system arrives with 48GB across 24 DIMM slots and the specification lists maximum capacity as 48GB, so the installed memory already reaches the stated ceiling.
Dual redundant 750W power supplies and up to 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drives mean sustained airflow through the 2U chassis; Dell does not publish a single noise or heat figure for this configuration.
The unit is a 2U rack-mount chassis measuring 26.8 inches deep and 17.44 inches wide; standard Dell PowerEdge sliding rails for 2U servers are needed for secure mounting.
