2U rack server with 12 hot-plug 3.5″ drive bays, single Xeon E5-2630 v3 at 2.4 GHz, 8 GB DDR4, H330 RAID controller and dual 750 W redundant power supplies
Installed Memory Size 8GB
This Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve hot-plug 3.5-inch drives in a 2U rack form factor. A single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor runs at 2.4 GHz with hyper-threading for sixteen threads. The system ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory across twenty-four DIMM slots and a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management are included.
The twelve-bay chassis and H330 RAID controller make this server a fit for backup targets, archival storage or software-defined storage nodes that need high capacity per rack unit. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle basic network connectivity. It is not for workloads that require GPU acceleration or more than eight physical cores per socket. Buyers needing 10 GbE networking or a second processor from day one should look at a different configuration.
The single specification that decides fit is the twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays paired with the H330 controller. If the deployment needs that bay count in 2U with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 or 60, this chassis matches. If the workload demands more bays, 2.5-inch form factor or an HBA for direct drive access, this is not the right platform.

Other versions of this model
The server includes a DVD drive and power cables but no 3.5" hard drives, drive trays or rail kit; those items must be sourced separately.
Populate all 24 slots with 64GB DDR4 modules to hit the 1536GB limit; smaller 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or 128GB DDR4 DIMMs are also supported.
One eight-core Xeon at 2.4GHz with 8GB DDR4 and an H330 RAID controller handles light virtualisation or file serving; adding the second CPU and more memory scales performance for heavier tasks.
