A 2U rack server with twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays, a ten-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 and an H330 RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processor with 10 cores at 2.3 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory. It includes a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across up to 12 hot-plug 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bays. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management come standard.
This configuration fits environments that prioritise internal storage capacity in a compact 2U form factor, such as backup targets, media repositories or software-defined storage nodes. The single-socket layout limits total core count and memory bandwidth compared with dual-processor builds. The Matrox G200 graphics and six PCIe 3.0 slots do not support modern GPU compute or high-end accelerator cards.
The defining specification is the 12-bay 3.5-inch hot-plug backplane paired with the H330 controller, which delivers up to 52 TB of raw capacity using SAS or SATA drives. This bay count and controller combination determines whether the chassis meets the storage density and RAID-level requirements of the intended deployment.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with one 10-core 2.3 GHz Xeon and supports a second identical CPU, doubling cores to 20 and virtual threads to 40 for heavier workloads.
16 GB DDR4 runs at up to 2400 MT/s across 24 slots; the installed amount suits light virtualization but can be expanded to 1536 GB using 128 GB modules per slot.
The H330 caps each SAS or SATA bay at 12 Gbps and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50, 60 across the 12 hot-plug 3.5-inch slots.
