A 2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs, 128GB DDR4 ECC memory, eight 300GB 10K SAS drives on a PERC H730P RAID controller, quad-port 1GbE/10GbE networking.
The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It targets organisations that need high core counts in a compact form factor for virtualisation, database or high-performance workloads. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight modules.
A Dell PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for the eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives installed in the 2.5-inch bays. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network topology. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and hot-swap drive bays support continuous operation.
iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band control including virtual console, power cycling and hardware health monitoring from any browser. The package includes sliding Ready Rails and a front bezel so the server can be mounted immediately in a standard rack. No SSD storage is included, so workloads requiring flash tiers will need additional drives.

Other versions of this model
The PERC H730P 2GB controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode on its 12Gb/s SAS/SATA interface.
The server occupies 2U of rack height and ships with ready rails that mount in standard four-post cabinets; allow sufficient depth for the 750W redundant power supplies and rear I/O.
Install both CPUs first, then populate the 24 DDR4 slots following the per-socket channel layout — eight 16GB registered ECC modules are already installed for 128GB total.
