2U rack server with dual 8-core Xeon Gold 6134 processors at 3.2GHz, 128GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller and 24 enterprise 800GB SATA SSDs
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server configured with dual Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.2 GHz, each with eight cores. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight modules. Twenty-four 800 GB SATA SSDs fill every 2.5-inch bay, delivering high-capacity flash storage in a compact form factor.
The 2U chassis occupies minimal rack height while supporting up to two processors and 24 DIMM slots for a maximum of 3 TB of memory. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages the SATA and SAS drives through RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 1100 W platinum power supplies and an Intel X520/I350 quad-port network card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections are pre-installed. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides out-of-band remote management.
The all-SSD array and hardware RAID controller maintain consistent IOPS under continuous database or virtualisation workloads. Redundant power supplies and ECC memory protect data integrity during extended operations. The platform suits software-defined storage clusters, service-provider hosting and virtual desktop infrastructure where storage density and uptime matter more than single-thread burst speed.

Other versions of this model
Two hot-swap 1100 W Platinum supplies share the load so the server keeps running even if one unit fails.
Dual-rotor fans ramp with inlet temperature; idle is quiet but sustained 100 % CPU and 24 drives pushes airflow to maximum.
The daughter card has two SFP+ cages — buy 10 Gb SFP+ SR, LR or direct-attach copper cables separately.
