A 2U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon Silver 4116 processors at 2.1 GHz, 64 GB DDR4 ECC memory, a PERC H730P RAID controller, and two 400 GB SATA SSDs in a 24-bay chassis
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server designed for storage-intensive workloads such as software-defined storage and virtual desktop infrastructure. Two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors provide 24 cores running at 2.1 GHz with 3.0 GHz turbo capability. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across four slots.
The unit includes ready rails and a front bezel for standard rack mounting. Redundant hot-swap 1100 watt platinum power supplies allow maintenance without downtime. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 2 GB battery-backed cache. Cable routing for the 24-bay 2.5 inch chassis requires careful planning to avoid airflow restriction.
Twenty-four 2.5 inch drive bays support SATA and SAS drives for high-density storage expansion. Memory scales to 3 TB across 24 DDR4 slots for large virtualisation deployments. Dual 10 Gb SFP+ and dual 1 GbE ports handle moderate network throughput. The two installed 400 GB SATA SSDs suit boot or caching roles but lack capacity for primary data sets.
