Four-socket 4U rack server with 96 Xeon cores, 3 TB DDR4 memory, H730P RAID controller and four 1.8 TB SAS drives
The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.2 GHz with 24 cores and reaches 3.4 GHz turbo. The system ships with 3 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 96 DIMM slots. It targets enterprises running large in-memory databases, heavy virtualisation or analytics workloads that demand maximum core count and memory capacity in a single chassis.
A Dell PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Four 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives are pre-installed in the 2.5-inch bays. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote management and agent-free provisioning. Four 1100 W platinum power supplies, ready rails and a front bezel complete the bundle.
The 3 TB configuration fills all 96 slots with 32 GB modules at 2400 MHz, leaving no empty sockets for simple expansion; further growth requires replacing modules up to the 12 TB platform limit. Four drive bays are occupied by the supplied SAS disks, while the chassis supports up to 24 hot-plug SAS or SATA drives plus eight front NVMe devices for I/O-intensive tiers. Buyers needing more than four processors or a different memory generation cannot use this platform.

Other versions of this model
The four 1100 Watt EPP 80+ Platinum units are hot-swappable and share the load; Dell rates them for long life in 24/7 use, so plan on swapping only after a failure alert from iDRAC8.
The four Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors hit their 3.4 GHz turbo ceiling before the 3 TB DDR4 or the H730P controller saturate, so sustained all-core turbo is the first hard limit.
Four 1100 Watt Platinum supplies and 96 active cores push significant heat; the 4U rack fans ramp to high speed, producing noticeable datacentre-grade noise and exhaust temperatures that require proper aisle containment.
