DELL PowerEdge R940 3U rack server 4× Xeon Gold 6142 2.6GHz 16-core 64GB DDR4 8× 2.4TB SAS H730P

Four-socket Xeon server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R940 packs four Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors, each with 16 cores at 2.6 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency, into a 3U rack chassis. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory is installed across 48 slots, leaving room to scale to 6 TB. The platform targets organisations that run large databases, virtualisation clusters or in-memory analytics and need maximum core density per rack unit.

Redundant 1600 W platinum supplies

Dual 1600 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide full redundancy with hot-swap replacement. The Intel C620 chipset manages power distribution across all four sockets while the system fans adjust speed to the thermal load of the CPUs and eight 2.4 TB 10K SAS drives. Acoustic output varies with workload intensity and inlet temperature, and the 3U form factor fits standard rack airflow designs without requiring specialised cooling infrastructure.

PERC H730P RAID, quad-port networking

The bundled PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache enables RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for the eight installed drives. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network topology. iDRAC9 Enterprise delivers full remote management including virtual console, power control and hardware inventory, while ready rails and a front bezel simplify rack mounting and physical security.
