The Dell PowerEdge R940 packs four Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors, each with eight cores running at 3.2 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. With 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 48 slots, it targets organisations that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a 3U rack form factor. The system supports up to 6 TB of total memory for future expansion.

Sustained load behaviour with redundant power

Four processors and a Dell PERC H730P 2 GB controller with battery-backed cache drive eight 1.2 TB 10 K SAS drives in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60. Dual 1600 W platinum power supplies share the load, so the platform maintains performance during prolonged compute or storage tasks without throttling from a single supply failure. The Intel C620 chipset coordinates I/O across all sockets.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

Hot-swap redundant power supplies and the 3U chassis airflow design keep component temperatures stable under typical datacentre conditions. The integrated Intel X520/I350 network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for balanced throughput. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote thermal monitoring and power management without requiring physical access to the rack.
