Precision 3650 Mid Tower for professional workloads

This Dell Precision 3650 Mid Tower workstation is built for engineers, designers and analysts who need dependable performance for CAD, 3D modelling and financial applications. It ships new with Windows 11 Pro, an Intel Core i7-11700K 8-core processor reaching 5.0 GHz turbo, 128 GB of DDR4 3200 memory and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. The NVIDIA Quadro P1000 4 GB GDDR5 card drives up to four displays via mDP 1.4.

Build integration: power.

The 460 W 80PLUS Gold power supply feeds the CPU, GPU and four occupied DDR4 slots, so the 128 GB maximum is already reached. Four mini-DisplayPort 1.4 connectors handle multi-monitor setups without extra adapters. Integrated Intel I219-LM Gigabit Ethernet and Realtek ALC3246 audio cover wired networking and sound. The mid-tower chassis leaves room for additional storage drives, though no 3.5-inch bays are detailed in the specifications.

Upgrade path: from entry workstations

This system replaces older Precision towers or consumer desktops that lack ECC memory support, professional GPU drivers or a Gold-rated power supply. The jump is worth it when workloads demand certified Quadro drivers, 128 GB of DDR4 3200 capacity and a 1 TB NVMe boot drive in a single validated platform. Buyers who need more than four display outputs, a higher-wattage PSU for larger GPUs or ECC Xeon processors should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 460 W power supply limit the i7-11700K under sustained all-core loads?

The 460 W 80PLUS Gold unit is sized for the factory configuration; sustained turbo on all eight cores will draw more power than base operation but the supply is rated for the system as shipped.

How loud and hot does the mid-tower get when the Quadro P1000 and i7-11700K run all day?

The chassis uses Dell Precision thermal design with controlled fan curves; the 460 W Gold supply runs efficiently, so noise and heat stay at workstation-typical levels for this form factor.

Does the 128 GB DDR4 3200 kit fill every slot or do I need to buy more memory to reach capacity?

The 128 GB (4×32 GB) configuration already occupies all four DIMM slots and matches the 128 GB maximum supported by the platform.
