Precision 3650 mid-tower workstation

The Dell Precision 3650 is a mid-tower desktop built for professional workloads. It pairs an Intel Core i7-11700K processor with 128GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe solid-state drive. An Nvidia Quadro P620 graphics card provides certified drivers for CAD and 3D applications. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and digitally activated.

Upgrade from consumer desktops or older workstations

This system replaces standard office PCs that lack ECC memory support and ISV-certified graphics. The jump is worth it when workflows demand error-correcting DDR4 at 3200MHz and a Quadro GPU with four mini-DisplayPort 1.4 outputs. It also suits users moving from towers limited to 64GB maximum memory or slower storage interfaces.

Tool-less chassis simplifies internal access

The mid-tower design allows straightforward component swaps without special tools. The 460W 80PLUS Gold power supply limits high-wattage GPU upgrades, so verify power budgets before adding cards. Ensure any added DDR4 modules are unbuffered to match the existing 4x32GB configuration. The LGA 1200 socket restricts future CPU changes to 11th-generation Intel Core or Xeon W-1300 series processors.

Questions about this item

What motherboard socket must the chassis support for the Intel Core i7-11700K processor?

The processor uses the LGA 1200 socket, so the motherboard inside this mid-tower must provide that socket.

How are the four 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory modules installed, and what common mistake should be avoided?

Populate all four DIMM slots with the matched 32 GB sticks; the frequent error is mixing capacities or speeds, which prevents the system from running at the rated 3200 MT/s.

Which component will need driver updates to maintain compatibility with future professional applications?

The Nvidia Quadro P620 2 GB GDDR5 graphics card requires periodic driver updates from Nvidia to stay certified for CAD and 3D modelling software releases.
