Precision 5520 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5520 is a 15.6-inch thin-and-light mobile workstation built for professionals who need reliable performance in a compact chassis. It ships new with Windows 11 and an Intel Core i7-7820HQ quad-core processor that reaches 3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost.

Suited for CAD and content workflows

This configuration suits engineers, designers and analysts running CAD, BIM or video-editing workloads that benefit from 16 GB of DDR4 2400 memory and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. Buyers who need a dedicated GPU for GPU-accelerated rendering or who require more than 16 GB of RAM should look at a different system.

Quad-core i7-7820HQ with Turbo Boost

Questions about this item

What bandwidth does the Thunderbolt 3 port on the Precision 5520 provide, and what does that cap in practice?

The Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps, capping external GPU and storage speeds at that ceiling.

What physical slot and form factor does the 512 GB SSD use inside the Precision 5520?

The 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD occupies an M.2 2280 slot on the motherboard.

How is the RAM installed in the Precision 5520, and what step do people often get wrong?

The 16 GB DDR4 2400 module is soldered, so there is no slot to populate; the common mistake is buying a SO-DIMM that cannot be fitted.
