Precision 5530 UHD touch workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation with a 3840 x 2160 IPS touch display. It runs on a six-core Intel Core i7-8850H processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. Professional graphics are provided by an NVIDIA Quadro P1000 card with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory. Storage combines a 128 GB M.2 drive and a 1 TB SSD. Windows 10 Pro is installed.

Who this suits and who it does not

This laptop suits engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics and a colour-accurate 4K touch screen in a portable silver chassis. Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays and docks. Buyers who want more than 16 GB of system memory or a newer GPU architecture should look at something else.

Capacity and headroom

The 1 TB SSD and 128 GB M.2 drive give ample room for large project files and operating-system responsiveness. Six cores at up to 4.30 GHz handle multi-threaded workloads such as CAD and simulation comfortably. The Quadro P1000 with 4 GB GDDR5 runs out on very large textures or complex GPU compute tasks that exceed its video memory.

Questions about this item

What ports does my existing monitor need to connect to the HDMI 2.0 or Thunderbolt outputs on this Precision 5530?

The laptop provides one HDMI 2.0 port and one Thunderbolt port with x4 PCIe lanes, so a monitor with HDMI or USB-C video input will work directly.

Will my older USB 3.0 flash drives and peripherals work with the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on this laptop?

Yes, the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 devices, so existing drives and peripherals will function normally.

How can I confirm the 3840 x 2160 UHD touch panel and Quadro P1000 4GB GDDR5 are active after Windows 10 Pro boots?

Open Display settings to verify 3840 x 2160 resolution and touch input, then check Device Manager under Display adapters for NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB dedicated memory.
