Precision mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified graphics and a colour-accurate touch display in a thin chassis. It combines an 8th Gen Intel six-core i7-8850H processor with 32 GB DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro P1000 4 GB GDDR5 GPU. The UHD 3840 x 2160 IPS panel covers 72 percent colour gamut and supports multi-touch input. Windows 11 Pro is installed.

Sustained thermal performance

Dual fans move air through the slim body to keep the hexa-core CPU and dedicated GPU stable during long rendering or simulation sessions. The 2.60 GHz base clock can reach 4.30 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost when thermal headroom allows. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports maintain full bandwidth for external displays and storage without throttling the internal pipeline.

Upgrade path and fit

This configuration replaces an older mobile workstation that lacks a 4K touch panel, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity or a combined 512 GB M.2 plus 4 TB SSD storage array. The jump is worthwhile when your workflow demands simultaneous local data access and external GPU expansion. Buyers who need more than 32 GB system memory or a newer GPU architecture should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Precision 5530 get when the i7-8850H runs at 4.30 GHz all day?

The dual-fan cooling system is designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under sustained workloads from the 6-core processor.

Which cables or docks do I need to connect my existing monitors to the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports?

Use a Thunderbolt 3 cable for USB-C displays or docks and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable for HDMI monitors; both ports are built in.

Will my older SATA SSDs work alongside the 512 GB M.2 and 4TB SSD already installed?

The laptop provides one M.2 slot used by the 512 GB drive and a second slot occupied by the 4TB SSD, so no internal SATA bay remains for extra drives.
