Mobile workstation with UHD touch display

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor. It pairs 16 GB DDR4 memory with a 1 TB SSD and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5 video memory. The 3840 x 2160 IPS touchscreen covers 72 % color gamut and ships with Windows 11 Pro installed.

Premium chassis with Thunderbolt and HDMI

The silver chassis integrates dual fans for thermal management and offers a Thunderbolt 3 port with four-lane PCIe bandwidth alongside HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and a headphone/microphone combo jack. This selection supports external displays and peripherals without docks, though users needing legacy Type-A video outputs or an SD card reader will require adapters.

Dual storage ready with professional OS

The configuration delivers 1 TB of solid-state capacity from the factory and the platform supports additional SATA or NVME M.2 drives up to 1 TB each for expansion. Memory can be upgraded to 32 GB DDR4. A Dell AC adapter is included. Buyers who need more than 1 TB of internal storage or 32 GB of RAM must add components after purchase.

Questions about this item

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port cap at for external displays?

The Thunderbolt 3 port supports HDMI 2.0 output, so external displays are limited to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz.

What drive form factor fits the storage slot?

The laptop uses M.2 solid-state drives; the 1 TB SSD supplied is an M.2 module.

How is the SSD installed, and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert the M.2 SSD at an angle, then secure it with the retention screw — the screw is the step most people forget.
