Mobile workstation for creative professionals

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around a six-core Intel Core i7-8850H processor running at 2.60 GHz with turbo up to 4.30 GHz. It pairs 32 GB of DDR4 memory with dual storage comprising a 128 GB M.2 drive and a 4 TB SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 drives the 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS touchscreen covering 72% colour gamut.

Suits ISV workloads; not for pure gaming

This configuration targets engineers and designers running certified ISV applications that benefit from Quadro drivers and a colour-accurate touch display. Buyers whose primary need is high-frame-rate gaming or consumer-grade GeForce features should consider alternatives optimised for that use case. The 32 GB memory ceiling and single GPU design also limit extremely large dataset processing.

Standard laptop deployment; check Thunderbolt docks

The system ships with Windows 10 Pro and a Dell AC adapter, so initial setup follows the usual out-of-box experience. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and an HDMI 2.0 output for external displays. Some users report driver conflicts when switching between integrated and discrete graphics, so keeping NVIDIA and Intel drivers current is recommended.

Questions about this item

Will the Thunderbolt 3 port on this Precision 5530 drive my existing Thunderbolt 3 dock and external GPU?

Yes, the single Thunderbolt 3 port carries x4 PCIe lanes and supports external GPUs and docks that use the Thunderbolt 3 standard.

Can I keep using my older USB 3.0 Type-A peripherals with the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on this laptop?

The two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports are fully backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 devices, so existing mice, keyboards and drives will work without adapters.

How can I verify the 3840 x 2160 UHD touch panel is running at its native resolution and 72% colour gamut after setup?

Open Windows Display Settings and confirm the resolution shows 3840 x 2160 (Recommended); then use the Dell PremierColor application to verify the panel is reporting 72% colour gamut coverage.
