Mobile workstation for creators

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around a six-core Intel Core i7-8850H processor and dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with 16GB DDR4 RAM and dual storage comprising a 1TB M.2 drive plus a 2TB SSD. The UHD touch display resolves 3840 x 2160 on an IPS panel with 72% colour gamut coverage.

Sustained load behaviour

Dual fans and a vapour-chamber thermal design keep the hexa-core CPU near its 4.30 GHz turbo ceiling during extended render or simulation sessions. The Quadro P1000 maintains stable clock speeds for viewport navigation and GPU-accelerated compute without throttling. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays while the system remains under continuous load.

Installation and common issues

Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and the AC adapter is included, so the unit is ready to use after the first-boot setup. Storage upgrades require removing the bottom cover to access the M.2 slot and 2.5-inch bay. Buyers who need more than 32GB RAM or a second GPU will find those requirements cannot be met by this chassis.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Precision 5530 get when the i7-8850H runs at 4.30 GHz all day?

The chassis uses dual fans to move air across the CPU and the Quadro P1000, keeping thermals in check during sustained loads.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 ports?

A Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock with x4 PCIe lanes and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable will drive external displays at 3840 x 2160.

Will my older SATA SSDs work alongside the 1TB M.2 and 2TB drives already installed?

The system ships with both M.2 slots populated, so adding a SATA drive would require removing one of the existing SSDs.
