Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation with a UHD multi-touch display, an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor and dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive configuration of 128 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD storage. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited for colour-critical creative work

The 3840 x 2160 IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut, making it a fit for designers and engineers who need accurate on-screen colour. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 support external displays and high-speed peripherals. Buyers who need a larger screen or a higher-wattage GPU for heavy 3D rendering should consider other form factors.

Deciding specification: 15.6 inch 3840 x 2160

The 4K touch display is the feature that defines this configuration. It drives the chassis size, the power profile and the professional colour coverage. If a non-touch panel or a lower resolution meets the workflow, a different Precision model will be lighter on battery and thermals.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 128 GB M.2 drive, and what step is often missed?

Insert the M.2 module at an angle into the slot, press down, and secure it with the retaining screw; the step often missed is tightening that screw so the drive stays firmly seated.

What maintenance or replacement will the 32 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered to the board, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced; if capacity becomes limiting, the only option is external storage or a new system.

At what point does the NVIDIA Quadro P1000 4 GB GDDR5 become the bottleneck under sustained load?

The 4 GB video memory fills first during extended 3D rendering or large texture workloads, forcing the GPU to swap to system RAM and reducing frame rates.
