Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel six-core i7-8850H processor running at 2.60 GHz with turbo up to 4.30 GHz. It carries 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The UHD IPS touchscreen resolves 3840 x 2160 and covers 72 percent of the colour gamut. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Professional graphics and connectivity

A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory accelerates CAD, 3D rendering and video workflows. Thunderbolt 3 provides x4 PCIe bandwidth for external GPUs or fast storage, while HDMI 2.0 drives a second 4K display. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and a headset jack handle everyday peripherals. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are integrated for wireless docking.

Premium chassis and thermal design

The platinum-silver aluminium chassis uses an InfinityEdge bezel to keep the footprint compact. Dual fans move air through a vapour-chamber cooler so the hexa-core CPU and Quadro GPU sustain higher clocks under load. The included Dell AC adapter powers the system and charges over Thunderbolt 3. Buyers who need a second internal drive bay or user-replaceable memory will need a larger chassis.

Questions about this item

Can the 32 GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later?

The system ships with 32 GB DDR4; the supplier notes DDR4 technology provides improved performance up to 32 GB, so the installed amount is already the stated maximum.

Will the NVIDIA Quadro P1000 4 GB GDDR5 throttle first under sustained heavy load?

The dedicated Quadro P1000 with 4 GB GDDR5 is the discrete graphics engine; under prolonged extreme graphics workloads it will reach its thermal and power envelope before the CPU.

How loud and hot does the dual-fan cooling get when the i7-8850H runs at 4.30 GHz all day?

Dual fans are designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under load; the 15.6" chassis dissipates heat from the 6-core processor and Quadro P1000 during extended use.
