Precision 5820 Xeon workstation

The Dell Precision 5820 is a mid-tower desktop built around an Intel Xeon W-2133 six-core processor running at 3.6GHz with 3.9GHz turbo. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 2666 registered ECC memory across eight slots, a 500GB NVMe solid-state drive, and an Nvidia Quadro P4000 graphics card with 8GB GDDR5 memory. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Compatibility checklist

The system uses an LGA 2066 socket and eight DDR4 memory slots populated with 32GB registered ECC modules. Verify that any additional memory matches the registered ECC specification and 2666MHz speed. The Quadro P4000 provides four DisplayPort outputs, so confirm your monitors accept DisplayPort input or have suitable adapters. The 950W 80 Plus Gold power supply uses standard ATX connectors for this chassis.

Thermals and power in use

A 950 watt 80 Plus Gold certified power supply delivers 90 percent efficiency under typical loads, keeping waste heat low during sustained compute or rendering tasks. The Xeon W-2133 and Quadro P4000 are cooled by the Precision 5820 tower airflow design, which moves air across the CPU heatsink and the graphics card blower. Fan speed ramps with workload but remains moderate for office and engineering workloads. Power draw scales with CPU and GPU utilisation, staying within the supply's rated capacity.

Questions about this item

Does the box include a monitor, or must I buy one separately?

The tower ships without a monitor; the specification lists Monitor not included, so you will need to supply your own display.

Is the 256 GB DDR4 2666 MHz memory already at the maximum 256 GB supported, or can I add more later?

The workstation arrives with 256 GB (8 × 32 GB modules) filling all eight DDR4 slots, which equals the 256 GB maximum, so no further memory can be added.

How does the 500 GB NVMe SSD perform as a boot and project drive in this workstation?

The 500 GB PCIe NVMe drive provides fast boot times and quick project loading for the Xeon W-2133 and Quadro P4000 combination.
