Dell Precision 5820 Tower Workstation

This Dell Precision 5820 Tower Workstation is built for professionals who need a powerful desktop computer for demanding applications such as engineering simulation, 3D rendering, and data analysis. It features an Intel Xeon W-2255 10-core processor, 128GB of DDR4 ECC memory, a 500GB NVMe SSD, and an NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 5GB GDDR5 memory, running Windows 11 Pro.

Installation and common issues

The mid-tower chassis uses a standard LGA 2066 socket and provides eight memory slots, with four populated by 32GB DDR4 2933MHz registered ECC modules. The Quadro P2000 installs via a PCIe slot and offers four DisplayPort outputs. Ensure the 950W 80 Plus Gold power supply cables are firmly seated; loose connections are the most frequent cause of a no-post condition.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that your workflow benefits from ECC memory and the Quadro P2000's certified drivers, as this system targets professional ISV certification rather than gaming. Confirm your monitors use DisplayPort inputs or that you have suitable adapters for the 160-bit GPU interface. The 500GB NVMe drive provides the primary boot volume; plan for additional storage if your projects exceed this capacity.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the Xeon W-2255 is running at its 3.7GHz base and 4.7GHz turbo speeds after setup?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab or run CPU-Z to confirm the processor shows 10 cores at 3.70GHz base clock and reaches 4.7GHz under load.

What components are included and what must I purchase separately?

The tower ships with the Xeon W-2255, 128GB (4x 32GB) DDR4 2933MHz ECC memory, 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, Quadro P2000 with four DisplayPort outputs, 950W 80 Plus Gold PSU, and Windows 11 Pro; a monitor is not included.

Should I choose this 128GB DDR4 2933MHz configuration or a different capacity?

This unit provides 128GB across four slots leaving four free for expansion up to 256GB total; select it if you need 128GB now with room to grow, otherwise a lower-capacity model saves cost.
