Professional workstation for demanding workloads

The Dell Precision 5820 Tower is built around an Intel Xeon W-2135 six-core processor running at 3.7GHz with a 4.5GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC memory across four slots and a 500GB M.2 NVMe solid-state drive. An Nvidia Quadro P2000 graphics card with 5GB GDDR5 memory provides certified driver stability for professional 3D and visualisation applications. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and digitally activated.

Mid-tower chassis with 950W power supply

The black mid-tower form factor houses a Dell 950 watt 80 Plus Gold certified power supply rated at 90 percent efficiency. The Quadro P2000 offers four DisplayPort outputs for multi-monitor configurations without adapters. Connectivity includes an Intel i219 Gigabit Ethernet controller and integrated Realtek ALC3234 high-definition audio. Eight total DDR4 slots allow memory expansion up to 256GB using registered ECC modules.

Platform constraints for expansion planning

The LGA 2066 socket and Xeon W-2135 processor define the upgrade ceiling for this workstation. Memory must be DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC; standard unbuffered modules are not supported. The 500GB NVMe drive occupies one M.2 slot; additional storage requires available drive bays and motherboard connectors. The 950 watt power supply sets the practical limit for graphics card upgrades within the chassis.

Questions about this item

What interface does the 500 GB NVMe SSD use and what practical speed limit does it hit?

The 500 GB drive connects through a PCIe M.2 slot using the NVMe protocol; real-world throughput is capped by the PCIe lane allocation on the LGA 2066 platform.

What physical space and power connections does the Quadro P2000 require inside the mid-tower chassis?

The card occupies a full-height, dual-slot PCIe x16 slot and draws power solely from the slot — no auxiliary power cable is needed.

How is the registered ECC DDR4 memory installed and which population rule is often missed?

Install the four 8 GB modules in the CPU-channel order shown on the motherboard label; the common mistake is mixing registered and unbuffered DIMMs, which prevents boot.
