Precision 5820 tower workstation

The Dell Precision 5820 is a mid-tower workstation built around an Intel Xeon W-2155 processor with ten cores running at 3.30 GHz and a 4.5 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB of registered ECC DDR4 memory and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. An Nvidia Quadro P2000 graphics card with 5 GB of GDDR5 memory provides four DisplayPort outputs. Windows 11 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed and digitally activated. This system targets professionals who need reliable multi-threaded compute and certified graphics drivers.

Compatibility checks for your environment

Verify that your workspace can accommodate a mid-tower chassis and that your display cables match the four DisplayPort connectors on the Quadro P2000. The motherboard uses an LGA 2066 socket and offers eight DDR4 slots with a 256 GB maximum capacity if you plan to expand memory later. Confirm that your network infrastructure supports the integrated Intel i219 Gigabit Ethernet controller. No monitor is included, so ensure a compatible display is available.

Bundled hardware and software impact

The 950 W 80 Plus Gold power supply delivers 90 percent efficiency to support the Xeon CPU and Quadro GPU under sustained loads. Registered ECC DDR4 memory helps protect data integrity during long compute tasks. The 2 TB NVMe drive provides fast boot and application loading without mechanical drives. Windows 11 Pro enables domain join, BitLocker encryption and remote desktop features required in managed business environments. The Quadro P2000 drivers are certified for professional visualisation applications.

Questions about this item

Does the box contain a monitor or must I buy one separately?

The tower ships without a monitor so you will need to supply your own display.

Should I pick the 32 GB DDR4 2666 configuration or add more memory later?

The system arrives with 32 GB in four 8 GB registered ECC modules leaving four of eight slots free for future expansion up to 256 GB.

What does the 4.5 GHz turbo figure mean when the Xeon W-2155 is under load?

The processor can boost from its 3.3 GHz base to 4.5 GHz on active cores giving extra speed for single-threaded tasks while all ten cores handle parallel work.
