Precision 5820 Tower Workstation Configuration

The Dell Precision 5820 Tower is a new mid-tower workstation built around an Intel Xeon W-2235 six-core processor running at 3.8GHz with a 4.6GHz turbo. It includes 32GB of DDR4 2933 registered ECC memory across four slots and a 2TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. An NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 5GB GDDR5 and four DisplayPort outputs drives professional visual workloads. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed.

Professional Users Requiring ECC Memory

This system suits engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics drivers, error-correcting memory for data integrity, and a high-core-count Xeon CPU for compute-intensive applications. The 950W 80 Plus Gold power supply supports the configured components. Buyers who need more than 32GB of memory immediately or require a different GPU architecture should look at other configurations.

LGA 2066 Socket Defines CPU Upgrade Path

The processor uses the LGA 2066 socket, which determines which Xeon W-series or Core X-series CPUs can be installed later. The motherboard provides eight DDR4 slots supporting up to 256GB total capacity. Verify that any replacement processor matches the socket and platform power limits before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What clearance does the 950 W power supply need at the rear of the mid-tower case?

The rear of the Precision 5820 tower must stay unobstructed so the 950 W PSU exhaust fan can push hot air straight out.

How is the Quadro P2000 graphics card secured during installation, and what step is often missed?

The card plugs into a PCIe x16 slot and must be fastened with the chassis retention screw; forgetting that screw lets the card sag and lose contact.

When will the 32 GB DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC memory need to be expanded or replaced?

The board has eight DIMM slots and supports up to 256 GB, so you can add matching modules later instead of replacing the original 32 GB kit.
