Precision 5820 Tower Xeon W-2255

This workstation pairs a 10-core Intel Xeon W-2255 processor with 256GB of DDR4 2933MHz registered ECC memory. A 2TB NVMe SSD provides fast storage for large project files. An Nvidia Quadro P4000 graphics card with 8GB GDDR5 drives up to four displays via DisplayPort. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed on the 64-bit platform.

Upgrade from consumer desktops

The jump is justified when applications demand ECC memory integrity and certified driver stability for ISV workloads. The Xeon W-2255 reaches 4.7GHz turbo for burst performance across its 10 cores. The 950W 80 Plus Gold power supply supports the full configuration without external adapters. Buyers who need more than four display outputs or GPU compute beyond 8GB GDDR5 should look elsewhere.

256GB DDR4 and 2TB NVMe headroom

The eight populated DIMM slots reach the platform maximum of 256GB, leaving no room for further memory expansion. The single 2TB M.2 NVMe drive handles operating system, applications and active datasets with low latency. Additional bulk storage would require secondary drives not included in this build. The Quadro P4000 suits professional 3D and multi-monitor tasks but lacks the VRAM for very large scene rendering.

Questions about this item

What power supply clearance and connector count does the 950 W 80 Plus Gold unit need in the mid-tower chassis?

The workstation ships with a 950 W 80 Plus Gold power supply; ensure the mid-tower case accepts a standard ATX PSU and provides the required CPU and GPU power cables.

How are the eight 32 GB DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC modules seated, and which slot order avoids the common boot failure?

Populate all eight DIMM slots following the motherboard’s channel sequence — typically alternating channels — so the 256 GB kit initialises correctly on first power-on.

When will the 2 TB M.2 NVMe SSD or the Quadro P4000 8 GB GDDR5 card likely need replacement under heavy workloads?

The NVMe drive endurance and GPU fan bearings are rated for multi-year continuous use; plan SSD replacement after several petabytes written and GPU service if thermals rise.
