Dual Xeon Silver 4114 workstation

The Dell Precision 7920 Tower is a dual-socket workstation built around two Xeon Silver 4114 processors running at 2.2 GHz. It provides 64 GB of system memory, a 256 GB M.2 SSD and a 2 TB hard drive. An Nvidia Quadro P2000 graphics card handles visual workloads.

Suited for multi-threaded CPU tasks, not GPU scale

This system fits users who need many CPU threads for rendering, simulation or virtualisation workloads. Buyers who require more graphics memory or newer GPU compute features should look at a different platform. The tower chassis also limits rack-mount deployments.

Dual-socket Xeon Silver 4114 configuration

The defining specification is the pair of Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs, each with 10 cores and 20 threads. This dual-processor layout decides whether the workstation matches the buyer's parallel-processing requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I install the second Xeon Silver 4114 processor into the motherboard DPN RN4PJ, and what step is often missed?

Align the processor notches with the socket keys, lower it gently, close the load plate, then secure the lever. The step often missed is applying fresh thermal compound before fitting the heatsink DPN H75C6.

Which components will need replacement first in this 7920 Tower with 64GB RAM and a Quadro P2000?

The 2TB HDD has moving parts and typically fails before the 256GB M.2 SSD. The power supply and system fans are the next most common replacements under continuous operation.

What thermal limit appears first when both Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs run at 2.2GHz under sustained load?

The heatsink DPN H75C6 reaches its dissipation ceiling, causing the 20 threads to throttle before the 75C6 can move heat away fast enough.
