Professional mobile workstation

The Dell Precision M6700 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around a third-generation Intel Core i7-3740QM quad-core processor running at 2.7 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache. It ships with 16 GB of DDR3L memory, a 1 TB solid-state drive for the operating system and a second 1 TB hard drive for bulk storage. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed on the SSD.

Suited for legacy ISV workloads.

This system suits engineers or analysts who maintain certified workflows on older ISV applications that run on the NVIDIA Quadro K3000M with 4 GB of DDR5 video memory and Intel HD Graphics 4000. The anti-glare Full HD display, full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and integrated webcam support long sessions in office or field environments. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of memory, faster GPU architecture or newer driver support for current professional software releases should look elsewhere.

Dual-drive configuration decides fit

The defining specification is the combination of a 1 TB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive in a single chassis, giving immediate boot and application speed plus high-capacity local storage without external drives.

Questions about this item

Can the 16 GB DDR3 memory be upgraded later, and what is the maximum supported capacity?

The system supports up to 32 GB of DDR3L memory, so the installed 16 GB can be doubled by adding two more modules.

Which component reaches its thermal ceiling first when the Quadro K3000M and i7-3740QM are both under continuous load?

The 240 W AC adapter rating indicates the combined power envelope; sustained full load on both the 4 GB Quadro K3000M and the 6 MB cache i7-3740QM will hit that limit before any single component throttles.

How loud are the fans and what is the surface temperature after the 17.3 inch FHD workstation runs all day on the 240 W adapter?

The 240 W power supply feeds both the Quadro K3000M and i7-3740QM, so fan speed and chassis heat rise steadily during extended high-load sessions on the 17.3 inch anti-glare display.
