Dell Precision M6800 Workstation

The Dell Precision M6800 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need a large anti-glare display and dual-drive storage in a single chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a quad-core Intel Core i7-4800MQ processor with 16 GB of DDR3 memory. A 1 TB SSD handles the operating system and active projects while a second 1 TB hard drive provides bulk capacity for archives and media libraries.

Suited for stationary power users.

Engineers, analysts and content creators who stay at a desk will benefit from the Full HD UltraSharp panel, the dedicated NVIDIA Quadro K3100 graphics with 4 GB of DDR5 video memory and the numeric keypad. The 240 W power adapter and 47 W processor TDP mean the system draws considerable power, so buyers who need all-day battery life or a lightweight device for travel should look elsewhere.

Dual-drive configuration decides fit

The defining specification is the combination of a 2.5 inch 1 TB SSD and a 2.5 inch 1 TB hard drive installed together. If your workflow requires fast boot and application loading plus terabytes of local storage without external drives, this layout matches that need. If you only need a single large volume or plan to rely on cloud storage, the extra drive adds weight and complexity you do not require.

Questions about this item

How does the 2.8 GHz quad-core i7-4800MQ perform inside a real laptop chassis?

The 47 W TDP processor sustains its 2.8 GHz base clock across all four cores and uses Turbo Boost for short bursts, so heavy workloads such as video encoding or large CAD assemblies complete without the chip down-clocking due to heat.

What display interface does the NVIDIA Quadro K3100 use and what resolution does it actually drive?

The K3100 connects through the internal PCIe link and drives the built-in 17.3" panel at its native 1920 x 1080 resolution; external monitors can be added via the laptop's own video outputs.

What physical drive bays and memory slots are needed to fit the dual-storage and 16 GB DDR3L configuration?

The chassis provides one 2.5" bay for the 1 TB SSD, a second 2.5" bay for the 1 TB hard drive, and two SO-DIMM slots populated with 16 GB of DDR3L memory.
