Mobile workstation for demanding workloads

The DELL Precision M6800 is a 17.3-inch business laptop built around a quad-core Intel Core i7-4800MQ processor running at 2.8 GHz. It targets professionals who need a large anti-glare Full HD display, 16 GB of DDR3L memory and dual-drive storage in a single chassis. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed on the 128 GB SSD.

Replaces ageing dual-drive laptops

This unit upgrades from single-drive machines that force a choice between speed and capacity. The 128 GB SSD handles the operating system and active projects while the 1 TB hard drive stores archives and media. The jump is worth it when workflows demand both fast boot times and local terabyte-scale storage without external enclosures.

Fits into a desk-bound setup with room for expansion

The laptop includes a DVDRW optical drive, a backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and a 240 W AC adapter for sustained 47 W CPU performance. An NVIDIA Quadro K3100M GPU with 4 GB DDR5 video memory drives the 1920 x 1080 panel. Memory slots support up to 32 GB DDR3L for users who need more headroom.

Questions about this item

What drive bays does the M6800 chassis provide for the 128 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive?

The workstation includes a 2.5" 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive in a dual-drive layout, both using standard 2.5-inch bays inside the 17.3-inch chassis.

Which screw or latch secures the bottom cover when upgrading the 16 GB DDR3L memory to the 32 GB maximum?

Remove the single captive screw on the service hatch, lift the cover, then press the SO-DIMM modules into the two DDR3L slots until the side clips click — the step most people miss is pressing firmly enough to engage both clips.

When will the 240 W AC adapter or the DVD±RW drive typically need replacement?

The 240 W adapter should be replaced if the barrel plug becomes loose or the brick overheats; the DVD±RW drive lasts until tray ejection fails or discs no longer read, which often occurs after several years of regular use.
