Dell Precision T3420 Tower Workstation

This Dell Precision T3420 tower workstation is built around an Intel Core i7-6700 quad-core processor running at 3.4GHz. It ships with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed. The chassis includes a DVD-RW drive and a 425W 80 PLUS Gold power supply.

Suits single-threaded CAD and office workflows

The four-core CPU and integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 handle 2D design, documentation and general productivity well. Buyers who need more storage than the single 1TB NVMe drive provides should look elsewhere. The 16GB memory ceiling also rules out large dataset analysis or virtualisation workloads.

Max memory capped at 16GB DDR4

The system supports a maximum of 16GB across four DIMM slots running up to 2666MHz DDR4 ECC or non-ECC. This fixed ceiling decides whether the workstation fits your workload. No memory expansion beyond 16GB is possible.

Questions about this item

What thermal limit does the 425 W 80PLUS Gold power supply hit first under sustained load?

The 425 W 80PLUS Gold unit delivers up to 425 W continuous; sustained draw at that level is the first thermal ceiling.

How loud and hot does the tower run when the i7-6700 and 1 TB NVMe drive operate all day?

The 425 W 80PLUS Gold supply runs at 90 % efficiency, so waste heat stays low and the single 180 W chipset fan profile keeps noise modest under full load.

Which display cables must I already own to use the integrated Intel HD Graphics 530?

The board provides two DisplayPort and one HDMI port; have matching cables ready for up to two active monitors.
