Dell Precision T3420 Tower workstation

The Dell Precision T3420 Tower workstation ships with an Intel Core i7-7700 quad-core processor running at 3.6 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 memory. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 drives up to two monitors through DisplayPort and HDMI outputs. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit comes pre-installed for immediate deployment.

425 W 80PLUS Gold power supply thermals

A 425 W 80PLUS Gold certified power supply operates on 100 VAC to 240 VAC input at 90 % efficiency, keeping heat output and fan noise low during typical office workloads. The tower chassis uses a single fixed supply without hot-swap redundancy, suited for quiet desk-side environments.

Half-height PCIe Gen3 slots and 3.5 inch bay

Expansion includes one half-height PCIe x16 Gen3 slot, one half-height PCIe x4 Gen3 slot, and one M.2 22x80 mm connector for additional NVMe storage. A single internal 3.5 inch bay accepts one 3.5 inch or two 2.5 inch drives, while an external slimline bay houses the DVD±RW drive.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD into the M.2 (22x80mm) slot?

Insert the drive at an angle into the M.2 (22x80mm) slot, press down, and secure it with the single screw; the step people miss is forgetting that screw, leaving the drive unseated.

Will the 32GB DDR4 memory need replacement or expansion later?

The four DIMM slots are already filled to the 32GB maximum listed in the specifications, so no further DDR4 upgrades are possible.

What limit appears first when the i7-7700 runs sustained loads on the 425W 80PLUS Gold power supply?

The 180W chipset rating and 425W PSU cap power draw, so the CPU will hit its thermal or power ceiling before the supply is exhausted.
