Precision T5820 Xeon workstation

The Dell Precision T5820 is a mid-tower desktop built around an Intel Xeon W-2275 processor with 14 cores running at 3.3 GHz and a 4.8 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC memory across four slots, a 500 GB NVMe solid-state drive, and an Nvidia Quadro P5000 graphics card equipped with 16 GB GDDR5X memory and four DisplayPort outputs. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and the system is powered by a 950 W 80 Plus Gold supply.

Upgrading from older Xeon towers

This configuration replaces earlier single-socket workstations that maxed out at lower core counts or slower memory speeds. The jump is worthwhile when workloads demand 14 physical cores, ECC memory integrity, and a certified professional GPU for multi-display setups. The eight total DIMM slots allow later expansion to 256 GB without replacing the motherboard.

Suited for ISV-certified workloads

Engineers running CAD, simulation or rendering packages that require Quadro driver certification will find the P5000 a direct fit. Buyers who need more than 500 GB of fast primary storage or who rely on consumer-grade gaming features should look at alternative configurations. The tower form factor also limits deployment in space-constrained rack environments.

Questions about this item

What size power supply and form factor does the T5820 mid-tower require?

The workstation ships with a 950 W 80 Plus Gold certified power supply in the standard mid-tower chassis.

How are the four 8 GB DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC modules installed for maximum bandwidth?

Populate all eight memory slots in matched pairs across the four channels; the system arrives with four slots filled and four free for expansion.

When should the 950 W power supply be replaced to maintain 90 % efficiency?

Replace the unit if it fails self-test, shows voltage drift under load, or after the manufacturer-rated MTBF interval for 80 Plus Gold units.
