Dual Xeon Gold 6148 workstation

The Dell Precision T7820 tower combines two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each with 20 cores at 2.40 GHz, for a total of 40 cores. It is aimed at professionals running CAD, rendering, engineering simulations and other multi-threaded workloads that benefit from high core counts. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled.

Sustained multi-threaded performance

Under continuous load the 40-core configuration maintains clock speeds across all cores, supported by 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 12 slots. The 512 GB SATA SSD keeps project files and applications responsive during long sessions. The NVIDIA Quadro P4000 with 8 GB video memory handles professional visual tasks and multi-display setups without throttling.

Tower installation and expansion

The chassis uses an LGA 3647 socket platform with both processor sockets populated, so adding a third CPU is not possible. Memory upgrades must use DDR4 ECC registered modules to match the installed configuration. Buyers who need more than 512 GB of fast storage or a second graphics card should verify drive bays and PCIe slot availability before purchase.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the dual Xeon Gold 6148 configuration get when rendering all day?

The T7820 tower chassis uses redundant cooling designed for dual 20-core Xeon Gold 6148 CPUs at 2.4 GHz; under sustained load the fans ramp up but remain within Dell's acoustic limits for office environments.

What display cables or adapters must I already own to use the Quadro P4000?

The Quadro P4000 provides four DisplayPort 1.4 outputs; you need DisplayPort cables or active adapters for HDMI, DVI or VGA monitors.

Will my existing DDR4 ECC registered modules work in the 12 memory slots alongside the installed 32 GB?

Yes — the 12 DIMM slots accept DDR4 ECC registered memory; matching speed and rank lets you expand beyond the factory 32 GB without replacing the original sticks.
