Professional CAD workstation

The Dell Precision T7820 is a dual-socket tower built for design, engineering, rendering and data-heavy applications. Two Xeon Platinum 8168 processors deliver 48 cores at 2.7 GHz with a 3.60 GHz turbo frequency. 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 12 slots supports large project files and smooth multitasking. A 512 GB SATA SSD provides quick access to applications and everyday professional workloads.

Thermals and power in normal use

The tower chassis is engineered to manage heat from two LGA 3647 CPUs and a Quadro P2000 GPU during sustained professional workloads. System fans scale with thermal demand to keep processors and graphics stable while limiting acoustic output in typical office environments. Power draw rises with core utilisation but remains within the workstation's designed envelope for continuous operation.

Bundled software and accessories

Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled and ready for immediate out-of-box setup, removing the need for manual OS deployment. The Quadro P2000 driver stack enables certified CAD, content-creation and multi-display workflows without additional configuration. Stock photos may differ from the exact configuration; the unit ships with relevant accessories in a generic box after functionality testing, cleaning and inspection.

Questions about this item

How do I install the two Xeon Platinum 8168 CPUs into the LGA 3647 sockets, and what step is often missed?

Align each processor with the socket keying, lower the load plate, and torque the retention screws in the prescribed cross-pattern; the step often missed is applying the correct torque sequence so both CPUs seat evenly.

What maintenance or replacement will the 64GB DDR4 ECC Registered memory need later?

The 12 DDR4 slots support ECC Registered modules; if a DIMM fails, replace it with an identical DDR4 ECC Registered stick to keep error correction active.

What limit appears first when the Quadro P2000 runs sustained professional workloads?

The 512GB SATA SSD can become the bottleneck first, as continuous read/write of large project files saturates its throughput before the GPU or CPUs reach their limits.
