600 GB 10K SAS Server Drive

This new Dell R72NV is a 600 GB 2.5 inch internal hard drive that spins at 10000 RPM over a SAS interface. It ships with a hot-swap tray and uses SLC NAND flash memory. The unit is intended for server deployments where consistent rotational speed matters.

Who This Suits And Who It Does Not

System builders equipping Dell PowerVault or compatible SAS bays will find the 64 MB buffer and 6 Gbit/s link match the original part specification. Buyers who need more capacity than 600 GB or who require a different physical form factor should consider other options.

The Spec That Decides Fit

The drive connects exclusively through a Serial Attached SCSI port and fits a 2.5 inch hot-swap bay. Verify that your backplane and controller support SAS before ordering.

Questions about this item

What type of SAS backplane or controller must already be in the server to run this 6 Gb/s drive?

The server needs a SAS backplane or controller that supports 6 Gb/s SAS links for the 600 GB 10000 RPM drive to operate at its rated speed.

Will the included hot-swap tray fit the same 2.5-inch drive bays used by older 3 Gb/s SAS drives?

Yes, the tray matches the standard 2.5-inch hot-swap form factor, so it slides into existing bays that previously held 3 Gb/s SAS drives.

How can I confirm the 64 MB buffer is active after installation?

Check the drive’s SMART data or the RAID controller’s management utility; both will report the 64 MB cache as enabled when the drive is functioning correctly.
