An 180 W desktop power supply for OptiPlex 5040 and 7040 small-form-factor systems with an 8-pin connector
This Dell RKTF0 power supply delivers 180 W in a small-form-factor chassis. It is built for OptiPlex 5040 and 7040 desktops that require the proprietary 8-pin connector. The unit includes a single cooling fan and is supplied new for direct replacement.
It swaps out the original supply when that unit has failed or shows voltage instability. The upgrade is only worth it if the system uses the same 8-pin pin-out and fits the SFF housing; other Dell towers or third-party boards will not accept this connector layout.
The fixed 8-pin output and SFF dimensions prevent use in standard ATX cases or motherboards with 24-pin main power. Cable length and routing are tailored to the OptiPlex 5040/7040 layout, so builders needing modular cables or higher wattage must choose a different platform.

Yes, the RKTF0 is built for the 5040 and 7040 SFF chassis and uses the 8-pin connector those systems require.
Slide the unit into the SFF bay, secure the retention screw, then plug the 8-pin motherboard connector; the step often missed is fully seating that 8-pin plug until it clicks.
The single internal fan should be cleared of dust periodically; no other user-serviceable parts are inside the sealed 180 W unit.
