Interactive ultra-short-throw projector

The Dell S500wi is a DLP projector built for interactive teaching and collaborative meetings. Its ultra-short-throw lens produces a large image from just four to twenty-eight inches away, removing shadows and eye glare. Native WXGA 1280x800 resolution and 3200 ANSI lumens suit lit rooms. Interactive features work with Windows, Linux, Android and iOS devices.

Steady brightness and contrast during long sessions

The lamp delivers 3200 ANSI lumens with a 2300:1 contrast ratio, maintaining readable images through extended lessons or presentations. DLP technology avoids colour decay over time. HDMI 1.3 accepts 1080p input while the native panel stays at 1280x800. VGA, composite, S-Video and USB ports give fallback connectivity for legacy sources.

Wall-mounted setup with minimal clearance

Ultra-short-throw design means the unit sits close to the screen, so ceiling mounts and long cable runs are unnecessary. The 15.6 lb chassis needs a sturdy wall bracket and a 12-volt trigger for automated screen control. Interactive calibration must be repeated if the projector is bumped. Dust filters should be checked regularly in chalk-heavy rooms.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the S500wi get when it runs all day?

The S500wi uses a DLP engine rated at 3200 ANSI lumens and weighs 15.6 lbs, so its cooling fan will be audible in a quiet room and the chassis will become warm during extended use.

Which cables or adapters must I already have to connect a laptop to the S500wi?

The S500wi provides HDMI 1.3, VGA D-Sub and USB Type B ports; have an HDMI cable, a VGA cable or a USB-B cable ready depending on your laptop’s output.

Will the S500wi work with my older 1080p sources and 4:3 content?

Yes — the S500wi accepts 1080p signals via HDMI 1.3 and scales them to its native 1280 x 800 resolution, while its 16:10 panel displays 4:3 material with pillar-boxing.
