Dell Savvio 146 GB SAS 10K Drive

This is a 146 GB internal hard drive with a SAS interface spinning at 10 000 RPM and equipped with a 16 MB cache. It uses a 2.5 inch form factor and supports hot-swap installation in compatible servers.

Suited for Server Replacements and Hot-Swap Bays

It fits administrators who need a direct replacement for a failed SAS drive in an existing array or a spare for hot-swap bays. Buyers who need larger capacity for bulk data or who require a non-hot-swap desktop drive should look at other options.

SAS Interface Determines Compatibility

The drive communicates over a SAS connection with a 300 Mbps external transfer rate and a 4 ms seek time. It will only operate in systems that provide a SAS backplane or controller; systems without SAS support cannot use this drive.

What 2.5" drive bay height does the 0.58" Savvio need?

The Savvio fits a standard 2.5" bay at 0.58" high, 2.75" wide and 3.96" deep.

Which SAS connector orientation avoids a crooked hot-swap insertion?

When should the 16 MB cache and 4 ms seek time drive be retired in a server array?

Replace the drive when SMART reports rising reallocated sectors or sustained throughput drops below the 300 Mbps spec.
