SKU CH-F76R-2X157 MPN ST1000NM0001

  • 1 TB capacity stores large datasets and backups
  • 7200 RPM spindle speed delivers responsive data access
  • SAS 6 Gbit/s interface connects directly to compatible controllers
  • 5 inch form factor fits standard desktop drive bays
  • New condition provides full manufacturer-rated reliability

Capacity and interface

This Dell hard drive provides 1 TB of storage on a 3.5 inch form factor with a 7200 RPM spindle speed. It connects through a SAS interface operating at 6 Gbps for reliable data transfer in desktop systems. The drive is supplied new and carries the model number ST1000NM0001.

Suitable systems and limitations

The drive suits desktop workstations or servers that accept 3.5 inch SAS drives and require 1 TB of capacity at 7200 RPM. It will not fit laptops or small-form-factor PCs that only support 2.5 inch drives or SATA-only backplanes. Buyers who need more capacity or a different interface should consider other options.

Deciding specification

The SAS 6 Gbps interface is the single specification that determines whether this drive matches your system, because a SATA-only controller cannot communicate with this drive. Verify that your backplane or controller supports SAS before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What does the 6 G SAS interface mean for real-world transfer speed?

The 6 G SAS link supports up to 6 Gbps signalling, so sustained throughput is limited by the drive’s 7200 RPM mechanics rather than the bus.

Will this 3.5-inch drive fit my desktop bay and what mounting holes does it use?

It uses the standard 3.5-inch form factor with bottom and side mounting holes that match typical desktop drive cages.

How is the drive installed and what step do people often miss?

Connect the SAS data cable and the SAS power connector, then ensure the controller BIOS or RAID utility detects the drive before initializing it in the OS.
