Silver 3.5 inch SAS hard drive in black Dell caddy tray

DELL

DELL ST31000424SS 1000GB 7200RPM SAS 3.5 internal hard drive

SKU CH-1586-S03AF

A 1000 GB 7200 RPM SAS hard drive in a 3.5 inch form factor with 16 MB cache, supplied new in a lot of 10 with trays

  • 1 TB capacity stores large data sets
  • 7200 RPM spindle delivers fast sequential access
  • SAS 6 Gb/s interface connects to enterprise controllers
  • 16 MB cache buffers burst workloads
  • Includes 10 drives with R-series caddies for immediate rack mounting

Ten-drive enterprise lot

This lot contains ten new Dell Constellation ES 3.5-inch SAS hard drives, each rated at 1000GB capacity and 7200RPM spindle speed with a 16MB cache. The drives ship with zero hours recorded and include R Series caddies for direct server bay installation.

Suited for array builds not single upgrades

System integrators populating multiple bays in compatible Dell PowerEdge or Precision chassis can use the matching trays and uniform firmware. Buyers needing only one drive or lacking a SAS backplane and caddy infrastructure should look elsewhere because the pack quantity and tray format target multi-bay deployments.

SAS 6Gbps interface decides fit

The drives connect via a 3.5-inch SAS 6Gbps interface, so the host controller or backplane must support that exact link speed and physical connector. Without a compatible SAS HBA or RAID card the drives will not function, making the interface the single specification that determines whether this lot is the right part.

Questions about this item

What comes with the Dell ST31000424SS drives and do I need to buy a tray separately?

The lot includes ten drives and each one ships with an R Series caddy so no extra tray purchase is required.

Should I choose the 1000GB 7200RPM SAS model or a different capacity for a Dell server?

This listing only offers the 1000GB 7200RPM 6Gb/s SAS version; other capacities are not available in this lot.

What does the 6Gb/s SAS interface mean for real-world throughput in a RAID array?

The 6Gb/s SAS link provides a 6 gigabit per second connection; actual sustained transfer rates depend on the RAID controller and drive workload.
