DELL

DELL ST9146853SS 146GB 15000 RPM 64MB 2.5" SAS internal hard drive

SKU CH-73FY-JAMTS MPN ST9146853SS

A 146GB 2.5-inch SAS drive spinning at 15000 RPM with 64MB cache for server workloads

  • 15 000 RPM spindle delivers fast transactional throughput
  • 64 MB cache buffers burst I/O for database workloads
  • 146 GB capacity fits dense 2.5 inch server bays
  • SAS interface provides dual-port reliability for enterprise arrays
  • New condition ensures full manufacturer specification compliance

Dell Savvio 146 GB 15 K RPM SAS Drive

This 2.5-inch enterprise hard drive delivers 146 GB of storage on a 6 Gb/s SAS interface. A 15 000 RPM spindle and 64 MB cache provide low-latency access for transaction-heavy workloads. The drive is supplied new in OEM or retail packaging that may vary.

Suited For Enterprise Arrays Not Desktop Builds

IT teams running database servers, virtualisation hosts or high-throughput storage arrays will benefit from the sustained speed and dual-port SAS reliability. Buyers who need larger capacities or a different interface should look elsewhere. Home PC builders without a SAS controller cannot use this drive.

15 000 RPM Spindle Speed Decides Fit

The 15 000 RPM rotation rate is the single specification that determines whether this drive meets your performance target. It enables the high IOPS required for write-intensive applications. Confirm your backplane and controller support 6 Gb/s SAS before ordering.

Questions about this item

Will the 15000 RPM mechanism require any scheduled maintenance or replacement parts?

The drive is a sealed 2.5" SAS HDD with no user-serviceable parts; under normal server workloads it runs until the unit itself is replaced.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy I/O on the 64 MB cache?

The 15000 RPM platter speed and SAS interface set the sustained throughput ceiling; the 64 MB cache absorbs bursts but does not raise the continuous limit.

How much noise, heat or power does the 146GB 15K SAS drive produce when running all day?

As a 2.5" 15000 RPM enterprise drive it generates more heat and audible seek noise than slower disks and draws higher power under constant load.
