Dell Savvio 900 GB SAS drive

The Dell Savvio ST9900805SS is a 900 GB enterprise hard drive built for 2.5-inch server bays. It targets administrators who need reliable, high-speed storage in dense rack or blade environments.

900 GB capacity with 10 000 RPM spindle

A 10 000 RPM spindle and 64 MB cache deliver fast sequential and random access for transactional workloads. The 900 GB limit means large archival datasets will require additional drives or a higher-capacity tier.

6 Gbit SAS interface for direct server backplanes

The 6 Gbit SAS connector plugs straight into compatible server backplanes and RAID controllers without adapters. The small 2.5-inch form factor frees front-panel slots for more spindles or solid-state caching tiers.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" SAS ST9900805SS fit in the same drive bays as my existing 3.5" SAS drives?

The 2.5" form factor is physically smaller than 3.5" bays; you will need a 2.5"-to-3.5" adapter bracket to mount it securely in a standard server chassis.

How can I verify the 10000RPM drive is performing correctly after installation?

Check the controller BIOS or OS disk utility for a 6 Gb/s SAS link speed, confirm the model ST9900805SS and 900 GB capacity are reported, and run a SMART self-test to ensure no errors.

Does the ST9900805SS ship with a mounting bracket, cables or a controller card?

The drive is supplied as a bare unit only; SAS data and power cables, any required 2.5" mounting bracket and a compatible SAS HBA or RAID controller must be purchased separately.
