Dual Xeon Gold 6146 Workstation

The Dell T7820 pairs two 3.20 GHz Xeon Gold 6146 processors with 64 GB of DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro M4000 graphics card. It targets engineers, designers and data analysts who need certified drivers and multi-threaded CPU performance for CAD, rendering and simulation workloads. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The 12 physical cores per socket maintain high clock speeds across extended render or compute jobs because the chassis uses a workstation-class cooling layout. The 512 GB SSD keeps the operating system and active project files responsive while the 3 TB hard drive stores larger datasets without throttling the primary volume.

Installation And Common Issues

Four 3.5-inch drive bays are accessible without tools, allowing straightforward storage expansion up to the 768 GB memory ceiling. The system weighs 55 units, so two people or a lift are recommended when placing it on a bench. Buyers who need more than two GPUs or a newer GPU architecture should consider a different platform.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power should I expect from the dual 3.20 GHz Xeon Gold 6146 CPUs running sustained workloads?

The workstation uses two Xeon Gold 6146 processors at 3.20 GHz with 12 cores each; sustained loads will draw significant power and produce noticeable heat, so ensure the chassis fans and room ventilation are adequate for continuous operation.

Which display connectors must my monitors provide to use the Quadro M4000 8 GB GDDR5 card?

The Quadro M4000 offers four DisplayPort outputs; your monitors need DisplayPort inputs or active adapters to HDMI or DVI for multi-display setups.

Will my existing DDR4 ECC modules work if I expand beyond the installed 64 GB toward the 768 GB maximum?

Yes, the system accepts DDR4 ECC RDIMMs; populate the remaining slots with matching speed modules to reach the 768 GB limit while keeping the original 64 GB installed.
