17-inch 4K touch mobile workstation

The Dell XPS 9710 combines a 17.0-inch 3840 x 2400 touchscreen with an Intel Core i7-11800H eight-core processor, 64GB of memory and an 8TB SSD. An Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU with 12GB GDDR6 handles graphics duties. The system ships with Windows 10 Home and a free upgrade path to Windows 11 Pro. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a full-size SD card reader v6.0 and a 3.5mm combo jack provide connectivity.

Sustained workload behaviour

The eight-core Tiger Lake CPU reaches a 4.60 GHz turbo frequency, while the 97WHr battery supports extended sessions. Starting weight is 5.34 lb for the touch model, and the chassis measures 0.77 inches in height. Quad speakers with Waves Nx 3D audio deliver immersive sound during long rendering or editing tasks. The 93.7% screen-to-body ratio keeps the large display in a compact footprint.

Deciding specification

The 8TB SSD capacity determines whether this laptop can hold an entire project library without external drives. Buyers who need more storage than 8TB should look elsewhere. The 64GB memory ceiling is fixed and not upgradeable. Users requiring a second GPU or a different graphics architecture will not find it here.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the XPS 9710 get when the i7-11800H runs at 4.6 GHz all day?

The eight-core i7-11800H reaches 4.6 GHz turbo under load; the thin 0.77-inch chassis relies on internal fans that will spin up and the surface will become warm during sustained heavy work.

Which ports on the laptop do I need on my existing monitors or docks to drive a 4K 3840 x 2400 external display?

Two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports carry DisplayPort and Power Delivery, so any monitor or dock with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode can drive the external 4K panel.

Will my older USB-A peripherals and full-size HDMI monitor work directly with the XPS 9710?

The laptop provides only two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a full-size SD card reader v6.0 and a 3.5 mm combo jack; USB-A devices and HDMI cables need a USB-C adapter or dock.
